Like the Juniper Ridge Landfill operator, Casella Waste of New Hampshire, NACW accused industrial sludge producers – not municipal sludge producers – of being the primary source.
On Feb. 23, Casella Waste Systems told more than 30 wastewater treatment plants, including Bangor’s, it would no longer put their sludge into the Juniper Ridge Landfill in Old Town and cited two laws — LD 1639 and LD 1911 — for the abrupt stop.
We would hope that our decades of environmentally responsible management of the Juniper Ridge Landfill, and the talented men and women who provide that service, can be a starting point for those discussions.
